Special places aren’t always the most luxurious.

For this Missouri family the land on which they are building their dream home on Table Rock Lake is the most special place— even as it is under construction.

The gravel laden, fully exposed space was the ideal spot for a surprise 50th wedding anniversary dinner. The sweet couple’s grown children reached out to us to plan and design an intimate dinner for 12 as a surprise to celebrate their parents’ monumental anniversary.

We had to be strategic in our planning and mapping of the space because the couple visits the property daily to check in on construction. On nice days they enjoy a fire pit on the property.

Luckily, the surprise wasn’t blown! The couple showed up to the property with their family on July 4th weekend “just to check in on the space before dinner in town”. They were surprised to find a private dinner waiting for them.

We greeted them with their favorite cocktails, a playlist their granddaughters prepared, and course after course of decadent food prepared onsite by a private chef.

The couple was in tears and completely surprised. They sat at a table we designed with them in mind and watched as they enjoyed each other’s stories, laughter and presence.

Dinner concluded with rich slices of German chocolate cake - the same cake they had on their wedding day 50 years prior - shared in the light of a new fire pit gifted to the couple.

The couple will have this memory for years to come as they live in and experience their beautiful home on Table Rock Lake. This surprise day was only the beginning of the memories— just imagine the storehouse of memories that will accumulate with a real toilet, air conditioning, and a paved patio. It’s only the beginning and they’re already having fun!
