Sri Lankan Tradition with Unassuming, Intentional Details at Ventana Big Sur Elopement | Ravi + Timmy

These grooms paired Sri Lankan tradition with unassuming, intentional details in their Big Sur elopement.

Ravi and Timmy met via a dating app at the beginning of the pandemic. With Ravi living in Canada and Timmy living in Washington DC, you'd think these two wouldn't stand a chance. But their connection was evident from their first Facetime call and they both said it only grew stronger when they met at the DC airport for the first time in person. There was a spark between them that made the other feel like home. Long distance had nothing on them!

Ravi and Timmy wanted a day focused on their love for each other, without the pressure to please others, so they chose to celebrate just the two of them. They wanted a day filled with natural beauty that made them feel like they were on the set of Jurassic Park, making Big Sur an obvious choice! They wanted a day that felt luxurious and pampering, so they chose the resort Ventana, which offered spa services, delectable dining and room-service options, and an atmosphere for finding deep peace.

Ravi and Timmy spent their first night together walking DC at night and seeing all the sculptures, monuments and architecture lit up. This detail was incorporated subtly into their ceremony. The floral sculptures are meant to reflect the shape of the tip of the Washington Monument: a pyramid.

They also wanted to incorporate Ravi's Sri Lankan roots, so they had a traditional Tamil garland exchange during their ceremony.

After the ceremony they enjoyed a walk through the redwoods to the Sun Terrace where they cut their cake adorned with romanic, paper fireflies and sipped Palomas as the sun set over the water.

Elopements and intimate weddings have become more commonplace in the last couple of years - couples are choosing to prioritize their love, their values and their desires in new ways. And these are the unassuming, intentional details that made up Ravi and Timmy's day, and these are the details that they will remember forever.

We’re so incredibly grateful to have been invited into their elopement. Cheers to Ravi and Timmy!
