Airy, Ivory Elopement Shoot with Elise ABigail Photography

This shoot was intoxicating, and we mean that in the best of ways. It felt like a long hug on a sunny day. It was our favorite to date because it wasn’t just a pretty shoot with pretty people. It was real love with so much meaning.

The design for this shoot started from the tiniest of inspirations. We received a subscriber email from one of our favorite clothing lines. One of the photos in the email showed a woman standing in front of a vintage airplane.

When we saw that photo, something sparked in us. We started thinking about “flight” and the characteristics that come with it. A sense of freedom, of openness, of vastness. That’s how flight felt to us. And we wondered if we could design a wedding shoot that felt that way.

We started thinking about how those feelings could be portrayed by the location, outfits of the models, florals, the tablescape elements and the couple modeling. And it all started coming together.

The location would be a vast field at sunset. The outfits would be light colored, earthy, and the models would be able to manipulate how the attire moved in the wind. The florals would be all white, wild and asymmetrical. The tablescape would have feathers, be all white and natural tones, and sit close to the ground. Finally, we knew that the models would end up being the most important part.

We started thinking about who we should ask to be our models. It became clear that asking a married, same-sex couple would be essential. We wanted to represent the inclusiveness and openness of our community and the authentic and freeing love that comes with it. And so the shoot was born.

To the two couples that modeled for us — Shelby & Ivy and Chris & Nate — thank you for being vulnerable with us, for sharing your love in front of a camera. It was moving.

To all the vendors that came together to make this happen — thank you for pouring out your time, talents and resources to make something gorgeous and to love on these couples.

To this entire community — thank you for supporting couples of all backgrounds, for affirming that all love is true and good. I’m so thankful to be a part of it.
