Anti-Racist Resources for the Wedding Industry

June has illuminated a lot for all of us.

We were shaken from any sort of complacency we had around anti-racist work and are now striving to practice anti-racism every day. We know this is a marathon and not a sprint, so for us to keep it sustainable this looks like doing at least one thing a day to dismantle racism personally and in the community.

We invite you to join us in this!

Some days this may be picking up a book or listening to a podcast. Other days it’ll be self checks to make sure that in business our team is being actively, genuinely inclusive for both our vendor friends and couples.

This month it looked like creating THIS list of Black Vendors in the Wedding Industry. Moving forward we will be referencing it as we are recommending vendors to our couples in order to create a more inclusive industry. PLEASE UTILIZE THIS! We will be adding to it as we go, so feel free to send us your recommendations.

As for personal growth, HERE is a list of anti-racism resources for white people, including books, movies, organizations to follow on social media and more. We are currently reading Me and White Supremacy by Layla F SaadMy Grandmother's Hands by Resmaa Menakem and So You Want To Talk About Race by.Ijeoma Oluo.

As designers and planners, we work with photographers a lot and we know we have a role in how black people are portrayed in the wedding industry. If you are interested in taking a look at how to diversify the wedding industry, here is a great article called How to Dismantle Racism in the Photography Industry.

Other days our anti-racist work will look like:
⚡️Protesting
⚡️Writing to local and national officials
⚡️Researching local systems and organizations to learn what they are doing to be anti-racist
⚡️Voting mindfully
⚡️Choosing to be conscientious of where we shop and who we shop from to ensure it’s inclusive and sustainable
⚡️Trusting abundance instead of disregarding the needs of our community for our own “sense of wealth” (it’s not just about us)
⚡️Listen and be transformed
⚡️Investing in people and organizations who are anti-racist and make this world a better place
⚡️Seeking to learn with those who not always look, think, or approach life like us
⚡️Speak up for justice
⚡️Share and implement ideas on how to make equality for all truly equality for all

This quarter, we will be donating a percentage of our profits to Marsha P. Johnson InstituteIf you are looking for a place to donate we recommend checking out THIS LIST.

And we’re sure there’s so much more that our team will learn to do along the way, but the goal is to practice anti-racism and practice love every. damn. day.

Remembering that it’s not about us, it’s about ensuring that every single human is treated with the dignity and respect deserved, especially black lives.

Please feel free to respond to this email and let us know of any other resources we should be utilizing! We are so open to your thoughts and suggestions.

Sending love + light,
Stevie + Celia
