Modern Shapes Blend Eclectic Flowers in This Greenhouse Wedding | Tessa + Daniel

We met Tessa and Daniel when they were both in graduate school studying psychology. By the time they got married, they were amidst careers in therapy during one of the most difficult times in the world — the pandemic.

Their careers shown throughout the entire planning process, and most vividly, on their wedding day. In our partnership with Tessa and Daniel we were able to embed emotional intelligence, receptivity, thoughtfulness and storytelling into all aspects of their day.

And we’ve never seen so many tears of joy shed at a wedding.

Tessa and Daniel live in Chicago and it’s where their love story began. They came to Springfield, MO to celebrate their marriage since they have family that lives nearby. They chose Greenhouse Two Rivers as their venue — falling in love with the natural light and the feeling of being outdoors.

The design for their day was rooted in this emotional intelligence. Colors and elements that nod to their ability to communicate well, imbed meaning into their everyday lives and be a rock of support to the other.

The color palette featured warm, rich tones of burgundy and rust with accents of emerald. The floral elements were grounded in the fall season with these colors. We added interesting dried elements to create whimsical moments. Signage and tableware elements were modern, with an artful and eclectic twist.

The shapes of the signage correlated with the shape of the ceremony backdrop. We used an arched shape throughout all of these elements. The ceremony floral structure allowed light through instead of blocking it — just like a greenhouse. At the end of each row of chairs a cluster of dried foliage.

Our favorite piece of their day was an interactive installation that shared Tessa and Daniel’s story together and separately. We crafted two acrylic walls that could be walked around. One wall had a map of Logan Square, Chicago and pointed to all the moments Tessa and Daniel shared there. The second wall, installed about 6 feet behind the first, had black and white photos from their childhood and growing up. Viewing these two walls together created a storyline that could be seen through their whole lives.

Tessa’s brother officiated their ceremony, which made it even more special. The two shared personal vows with each other from a leather bound book that they kept love letters from throughout their relationship. Tessa’s brother-in-law shared a passage by Alain de Botton during the ceremony as well.

After ceremony Tessa and Daniel stole away for golden hour photos while we flipped the ceremony space into their reception space. We turned the ceremony backdrop into a sweetheart table backdrop with an added neon sign that read “Better Together.”

As the ceremony space changed so did Tessa. She adorned a more whimsical, romantic, sleeved gown for the remainder of the evening.

Dinner was served family style (our favorite) because Tessa and Daniel wanted their guests to have many moments of interaction. Friends and family shared toasts during cocktail hour and dinner — most of which brought tears.

And then the dancing began. There’s nothing better than Watching the dances that unfold when college friends get back together for the first time in years!

Tessa and Daniel, you two are magic. Thank you for inviting us into your lives and your wedding day.
