Marigold, Disco Outdoor Wedding at The Co-Op Farm | Talita + Cody

From the moment we met Talita and Cody we were in love. In an instant we knew they were our kind of people. Kind, buoyantly joyous, compassionate, grounded, affectionate, open and intentional.

You’re already getting the sense of their magnetism from their wedding day photos, aren’t you? Over the two years we planned with them, their character, commitment, and qualities shined.

Talita and Cody faced numerous shifts, challenges, and threats of disappointments and did so with grace, grit and determination to love each other and celebrate their life together. We won’t go into all the details, but changing their date due to the pandemic was only one of the challenges they overcame.

When their wedding day did arrive it was full of fun and unique design elements. One being the disco balls shining over the dance floor!

With so many details, our design set up began earlier than just the day of the wedding. With the help of Lacy of The Co-op at Stewart Settlement we creatively installed the disco balls the night before, giving us plenty of time to install and prepare before the wedding.

And we are so glad we gave ourselves extra time for set up! The morning of the wedding a heavy rain storm came through and slowed everything down. We faced flooding in the dance floor and band area, winds, and a move of the ceremony location. As always, our team and amazing vendors quickly took action to make the wedding flow flawlessly!

Our intention is to always tell the couple’s story within the design elements. For Talita and Cody’s celebration this included florals in colors of deep mauve, peach, and pops of marigold reflecting the wild, bold and grounded personalities of the couple. The bold blooms were contrasted by accent grasses, tying in the fall season and the outdoor venue.

Two floral “pillars” framed the couple at the ceremony. They were wild and asymmetrical, flanking each side of where Talita and Cody stood. Large ceramic vases and amber vases were stationed at the end of each row with cluster of marigolds and dried grasses.

Guests found their tables with the guidance of large glass and ceramic bottles. “Encontre o seu lugar”, Portugese for “find your seat”, introduced the seating chart. The incorporation of Portuguese was so important because it is Talita’s first language, as she is Brazilian.

At the tables we placed mixed stoneware and glass bud vases along the center of the tables with sand-colored pillar candles in clear hurricanes atop lace runners, provided by Talita’s sweet mother. Gold flatware was set on peach linen napkins and vintage goblets for water at the top right of each setting. Every guest was greeted by a sunny, half-circle place card with “more than anything” above their name—nodding to the loving phrase Talita and Cody exchange daily.

“More than anything” was also posted proudly behind the band as they performed covers of 90s hits during the reception.

Talita and Cody come from two very different worlds. Talita from the Amazon and Cody from the boot heel of Missouri. Despite different life experiences, these two have been inseparable ever since they met. It’s obvious they bring out the best in each other and are happiest when together. Their love is so powerful. It’s an undeniable kind that opens everyone around them to hopefulness and delight.

These two were fearlessly bold and loving, just as the flowers.

Torches Together shot in both digital and film to capture the planned and unplanned moments of their day. We’re big fans of using multiple mediums for documenting events.

Due to the heavy rain the ground at the original ceremony site was dramatically muddy, so we moved a few things around (why we always prepare plans B and C) and held the ceremony under the pavilion.

As Talita and her dad walked down the aisle towards Cody, the groom could now see his wife draw near with their loving words “more than anything” soaring above. This moment was so magical.

Sometimes the most magical moments are unplanned.

Cody’s parents have beautiful voices! During the ceremony they shared a special song with everyone to honor Talita and Cody’s marriage.

Immediately following the ceremony this fearless couple did what few choose to do. They completely snuck away from their guests to enjoy a private dinner in a yurt! Yes, we took them into the woods to enjoy a divine dinner, just the two of them. This gave them time alone to soak up all the love, actually eat, and rest while their guests sipped fantastic cocktails and nibbled on passed appetizers.

Talita and Cody’s guests also received sparkling water in cans specifically designed for the couple! They used the same logo design on their invitation and welcome sign (created by the ever-talented India Phoenix) on the cans.

After the ceremony, we didn’t mind the mud. The couple danced and played in the swampy grasses without a care in the world.

The ceremony site was transformed into a dreamy lounge with “Better Together” glowing above.

Another instance of Talita and Cody’s fearless love is how they don’t reserve their affection. During his toast, Talita and Cody were so moved by her father’s words that they got up and embraced Talita’s parents. It was a really moving moment.

We all danced the night away! Everyone loved the band, which was perfect because everyone loves to dance!

One of the most important themes of the wedding was: food! Talita and Cody made sure their guests ate, and ate well. Elevated southern-style appetizers were passed during cocktail hour. Dinner was elegant and incorporated flavors Talita grew up enjoying. Later in the evening the couple brought in a food truck to serve pizza by the slice for the rest of the night.

Talita and Cody, you two are brilliant and wonderful. We’re so grateful to be friends for life and had the chance to celebrate you!
