Modern, Textural Destination Wedding in Yukon, Canada | Amber + Tyler

What’s one secret you’ve kept for a long time?

One that you’ll share in the future, but for now you’ve kept it and it feels as though it could burst from your mouth at any second because you’re just SO excited!

Well this couple kept the secret that they were getting married for not one, but two whole years! Amber and Tyler met at work and fell in love while adventuring across the world, caring for their students and community, and creating a home together in their remote town.

They made their commitment to each other official in one of their favorite places in the world, the Yukon, Canada, with only their immediate families by their side. Yes, a total of 13 people knew to plan for this trip and that Amber and Tyler were getting married, but friends? Grandparents? Extended family? They had no idea until the day Amber and Tyler called their loved ones to tell them they were already married!

This blend of time exploring Kluane National Park under the midnight sun, eating delicious local foods, and laughing together for hours on end was enriched with the presence of a few loved ones and electrified when the precious secret was spilled to their greater community!

The design for Amber and Tyler’s wedding reflected their spontaneous, yet grounded personalities and their adventurous, silly and connective love story. We paired pops of color— like the lake blue salad plates — with floral elements that were textural, wild and earth-inspired — like the fluffy grasses in Amber’s bouquet.

The lounge was a space for Amber, Ty and their families to hang out, goof off and enjoy drinks together, just like they always do when they’re together! Behind the lounge we carefully mounted prints of vintage landscape paintings, reflecting the travels that Amber and Ty have been on together. And trust us, they have been on some of the coolest trips together!

The dinner tables were snuggled within a prospector’s tent, which was a perfect respite from the wind and the best place to enjoy a catered dinner of over 7 courses! Above the tables we strung delicate flowers and glass terrariums filled with votive candles. The dinner menu added a modern element— a rhombus-shaped cardstock in a pink clay tone joined together at the top with a tiny tassel. Name cards were custom designed matchbooks that read “light a fire” on the inside. And what a metaphorical fire do they create! These two light up the room.

Marriage is sacred, like a joyful secret. Marriage is an adventure, like glacial mountains and streams. Thank you for reminding us of these truths, Amber and Ty.
